Merry Christmas from Randomarts. What better way to Celebrate than with mitforms castings. This project really was a labour of love and so much fun. So sit back and enjoy this crazy mixed media ride. ![]() I started by removing the glass and attaching the chipboard backing of a certificate frame to the frame it's self. I then used white gesso to collage book pages all over it. As the frame is plastic i used sand paper to rough up the surface to help the gesso stick. ![]() I then used Little birdie (color splash, berry blast) and Lindy's magical shaker (Cuckoo Clock Cardinal). I used the shaker around the edge of the project spraying it water and dripping it around the chip board. I then came in with the colour blast over the top. I also used a soft brush to spread the colour over the frame. Once dry i used white texture paste through a stencil. ![]() The background looked a little to bright so i used Lindy's spray (Autumn Maple Crimson). Once dry i grunged it up by using Finnabair Rust paste. (brown rust). I also used the rust on the frame. I then went back in with the (Red rust) to touch it up. Mainly focusing on the frame. ![]() Now for the fun part. I took an old cereal box and cut out the back of the fire place. I used texture paste through a brick stencil. I also did this for the side, mantel front and mantel top. Once dry i used a black acrylic paint over the top, giving it a really good coat. I left it all to air dry for 5-10 minutes. Then i used a baby wipe to carefully rub off the paint from the bricks. Leaving them looking dirty. I didn't remove as much from the inside of the fire place as i knew i would paint back over it to look black from a lit fire. I hadn't attached the fore place yet as i had more work to do to it. ![]() Then came the mitforms, resins and a tim holtz frame. I found a beautiful vintage picture of two sisters to put inside the frame. As a mother of two daughters this image really spoke to me at Christmas. Before attaching the image i used Lindy's sprays (Cathedral Pines Green) and brown rust paste on all the items in the picture. Except the reindeer and tree. I didn't spray them directly, rather i sprayed my messy mat and used a soft brush to highlight parts of them. I did the same with the reindeer and tree. However i chose to directly dip them into the puddle. I then used the gold glitter while they were still wet. I used gel medium to attach the image to the frame. ![]() Before attaching any of the mitforms i lightly dabbed the brick work with brown and a little red rust paste. I then used an old stiff brush to go over the bricks inside the fire place with black acrylic paint. I also rubbed the inner side and inner front mantel. I then thought i used a stick broken into peices for the fire wood. I think it looks great. I used gel medium matt to attach the sticks. ![]() Here you can see the Lindy's spray on the mitforms, love them, so pretty. I used some Christmas tinsel (red and green) that i had laying around. I also used a cute bit of purple beaded wire to decorate the front of the mantel. Once the Mitforms were attached with gel medium i used some purple 3D fabric paint to dot in some small embellishment making it look like the stockings are hanging off the mantel. ![]() Love these. The rust paste and the green shimmer really look great on these mitforms and resin. Honestly the reindeer is a little to sparkly and too green but i guess it works. Makes him pop and not lost in the project. I also used the purple 3D fabric paint in the Candy cane. ![]() Oh my goodness i just can't get over the shimmer on these mitforms. I forgot to remove the present mitform from my messy mat while it was drying and it has a little purple on it , whoops. I think it looks pretty. I forgot to mention that i used wooden skewers to frame out the sides and top of the fire place. I used brown and red rust paste on these and attached them with gel medium. Adorable Tim Holtz frame with rust paste and Lindy's spray. Mitforms star. ![]() I used old broken chain to decorate to top half of the project. I used little birdie texture paste (iced slate) on the chain the Mitforms stars are hanging from. This was a challenge. I used a soft brush and dabbed the paste on only one side of the pieces of chain. When you use a heat gun on this product it puffs up like Magic. (So fun watching it happen). I then sprayed my messy mat with the green Lindy's spray and dragged the chain through it. Once attached to the project i used the 3D fabric paint to embellish. In this picture you can see the wooden skewers i used to edge the fir place. I also attached some tinsel to the top. There we have it, Mitforms Christmas Fire Place. I hope you have enjoyed this blog as much as i enjoyed creating it for you all. Get into the Christmas crafty spirit and create something super fun with Mitforms. Thank you for viewing and have a Merry Mitforms Christmas. Oh my goodness i had so much fun playing around with this skull. I only used a handful of products on this project so give it a go with any old statue, bottle or vase. ![]() I started by using a very rough sand paper and rubbed the skull bottle all over. I then used DecoArt Crackle Paint and covered the majority of the skull. ![]() Then using a gel medium i attached an old necklace, cogs, barbie dolls hands and on the other side a vine 3D sticker i had laying around and a bat Halloween decoration. ![]() Once dry i used Finnabair Rust Paste. Start with the Brown rust, then the red, then the yellow to highlight. (forgive my lack of progress pictures) ![]() As you can see from this photo i didn't so the normal shading you would usually do with a skull. Rather than it being darker at the back of the eye sockets i opted to do the shading in reverse, with the lighter colouring towards the back and the dark at the foreground. Once the rust paste was dry i used Lindy's sprays to colour the skull. I used (Glory of the seas Gold). I first sprayed directly onto the skull, then sprayed onto my messy mat and used a brush to create shadow. ![]() I also sprayed Lindy's spray (Azure sea Asters) around the top of the bottle, allowing it to drip down over the rust paste. I did drip down around the skull so i used a soft brush to smudge out the colour. I only wanted a little bit of colour on the rust, just enough to give a lovely shimmer to the rust. At this point i used gel medium to attach bling, pearl beads, a cool flat back embellishment and an old broken hair clip on the front. ![]() I then used a slate/pearl nail polish around the rim of the bottle and the teeth. Once i was happy i sprayed the skull with a matt sealer. I found that the crackle paste was chipping off in places where i hadn't sanded enough and the paste didn't hold. As this was my first attempt at an Altered skull bottle it really was an experiment. Thank you all so much for viewing my blog. I really enjoyed this experiment. I honestly believe that mixed media is all about experimenting with products, trying new things and giving it a go. You never know whats possible until you try.

Christmas decorations are on display everywhere you look. Here in Australia we have long hot summer days full of too much sun and evening storms. Ever since i was a kid i've been captivated by winter Christmas. This cute little Altered Frame is captures what Winter Christmas means to me. ![]() started by gluing down the chip board backing with gel medium. Once dry i covered the whole frame with white gesso. ![]() I used this adorable resin trees, available in store. I first sprayed them with Lindy's spray (Cathedral Pines Green). While it was still wet a sprinkled some Stampendous (Gold medium glitter) over the trees. I then used Lindy's Magical Shaker (Lederhosen Laurel). At this time i used gel medium to attach beads of various sizes then covered the lot with white gesso. While the gesso was wet i used the glitter on the larger beads. I then attached the trees with the gel and painted around the trunks with the gesso. Then i played around with Lindy's Magical Shaker (Bavarian Blue). So much fun. At first i sprayed a fare amount of water to the background, adding a little more shaker dust here and there to get a darker shadow around the edges. I then added a little (Polka Purple) shaker dust. Unfortunately the photo doesn't show up the purple as much as in real life. I also added it to the frame itself. I hope you have enjoyed this little Christmas art project. Super fun, super easy abd with only a few items.
