Oh my goodness i had so much fun playing around with this skull. I only used a handful of products on this project so give it a go with any old statue, bottle or vase. ![]() I started by using a very rough sand paper and rubbed the skull bottle all over. I then used DecoArt Crackle Paint and covered the majority of the skull. ![]() Then using a gel medium i attached an old necklace, cogs, barbie dolls hands and on the other side a vine 3D sticker i had laying around and a bat Halloween decoration. ![]() Once dry i used Finnabair Rust Paste. Start with the Brown rust, then the red, then the yellow to highlight. (forgive my lack of progress pictures) ![]() As you can see from this photo i didn't so the normal shading you would usually do with a skull. Rather than it being darker at the back of the eye sockets i opted to do the shading in reverse, with the lighter colouring towards the back and the dark at the foreground. Once the rust paste was dry i used Lindy's sprays to colour the skull. I used (Glory of the seas Gold). I first sprayed directly onto the skull, then sprayed onto my messy mat and used a brush to create shadow. ![]() I also sprayed Lindy's spray (Azure sea Asters) around the top of the bottle, allowing it to drip down over the rust paste. I did drip down around the skull so i used a soft brush to smudge out the colour. I only wanted a little bit of colour on the rust, just enough to give a lovely shimmer to the rust. At this point i used gel medium to attach bling, pearl beads, a cool flat back embellishment and an old broken hair clip on the front. ![]() I then used a slate/pearl nail polish around the rim of the bottle and the teeth. Once i was happy i sprayed the skull with a matt sealer. I found that the crackle paste was chipping off in places where i hadn't sanded enough and the paste didn't hold. As this was my first attempt at an Altered skull bottle it really was an experiment. Thank you all so much for viewing my blog. I really enjoyed this experiment. I honestly believe that mixed media is all about experimenting with products, trying new things and giving it a go. You never know whats possible until you try.

I love it!! I love a kinda weird mix of art; the macabre, shabby chic and victorian and my own style, which I haven't yet defined. This altered skull is awesome. Thank you for the inspiration!
